Bangladesh and West Indies drew the rain-affected first Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Tuesday. Bangladesh declared its second innings at 119-3 at tea on the fifth day, giving West Indies a target of 226 to win, but the touring side reached just 100-2 in 22 overs in its second innings before umpires called it a day with 15 overs to spare. West Indies lost openers Lendl Simmons for 44 and Kraigg Brathwaite for no run in the final session of the game. Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan had Simmons caught by Rubel Hossain, while debutant left-arm spinner Mohammad Ilias Sunny, who took six wickets in the first innings, trapped Kraigg Brathwaite lbw. Kirk Edwards was unbeaten on 28 with Darren Bravo not out on 24 before the captains agreed to call it a draw. In Bangladesh's second innings, Shahriar Nafees top scored for the host with 50, hitting 12 boundaries before he played on to his stumps off the bowling of Marlon Samuels. Opener Tamim Iqbal contributed a stylish 37. Earlier, Sunny finished with figures of 6-94 after West Indies was bowled out for 244 to trail by 106 after the first innings. Shakib took 3-53. Resuming on 144-5, West Indies lasted only 17 overs and added 100 runs on a spin-friendly pitch. Sammy scored 58 before he was bowled by Shakib, who also claimed Ravi Rampaul (8) and Devendra Bishoo (0).
