Saudi Gazette To eradicate the use of profanities from our society, the World Assembly for Muslim Youth (WAMY) hosted a campaign ‘Society without swearing' in their female section in Jeddah. Launched by Awaser in collaboration with Change your Life for girls group, their first audience were girls of Al Faisaliah Society. Hala Nesair, head of the female section of WAMY and Wasfia Khawaji, supervisor of the social care center for children presided over the campaign. Khawaji said that swearing is a very vicious habit which springs from domestic abuse or in order to mingle with friends, that is they might try to sound funny and stand out by using obscene words and imitating others. She further said, “Swearing and imitating is not acceptable and if this is not immediately taken care, it might result into a habit difficult to overcome. The main reason behind our campaign is to abolish the use of such words. A child may not understand, but a school-going child does, and if he/she knows that it is going to hurt others and despite it they use it, then there would be no moral values left in the society. “ Nesair took a religious approach to tell children why swearing is unacceptable. “We introduced tools to make them understand how they should treat others when insulted and vice versa,” she said. Children were shown acts on how to deal with gossipers, imitators and those who were short-tempered. Girls were also taught how to build a positive attitude around such people through workshops and open discussions. It helped them voice their opinions and grievances. “The children we are dealing with are very different from those who have families and hence it is our responsibility to teach them right from wrong in order to let them have a bright future,” said Nessair. __
