The Minister of Interior issued a statement Tuesday announcing that Saleem Shah Sayed Shah, a Pakistani national, was beheaded for attempting to smuggle heroin into the Kingdom. He was found guilty by the Jeddah General Court. The verdict was endorsed by the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court and a Royal Decree was issued to execute the verdict. The smuggler was beheaded Tuesday in Makkah Region. The ministry said that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques will fight all types of drugs because they cause enormous harm to individuals and society. It will severely punish those who attempt to smuggle drugs into the country. Saudi Arabia takes a particularly serious view of drug offenses. The death penalty is frequently imposed on drug smugglers. Possession of even the smallest quantity can lead to a long prison sentence.
