The Egyptian Actors' Union (EAC) has instructed its lawyers to defend comedian Adel Emam against accusations he made blasphemous comments about Islam. Al-Haram Court will look into the defense submitted by Emam on the charges filed by a lawyer. Emam was sentenced to three months in prison and fined 1,000 Egyptian pounds. Sources told Al-Watan Arabic daily that Emam was prepared to fight the case and was confident because of the support of the EAC and his fans. In a statement Monday, the EAC announced its support for Emam and said it would fight anyone who wanted to impose restrictions on creativity.
