The Court of Cassation has upheld a Riyadh General Court's ruling to imprison three defendants accused of robbing houses in the capital. One of the defendants was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes. The other two were sentenced to eight years in jail and 1,000 lashes each. Police said the three confessed to the crimes and that stolen items were found in their apartment. Meanwhile, a panel of three judges has sentenced to death a Saudi and an Egyptian for attempting to smuggle Captagon tablets into the country on a bus, according to an official judicial source on Tuesday. The court also sentenced to lashes and fines four other men – two Saudis and two Egyptians – for being accomplices in the affair. In the next few days the court will submit the verdicts to the Appeal Court for final approval.
