Over the last year, district courts in Riyadh, Madina, Dammam, Jeddah and Al-Ahsa presided over 75,956 criminal and civil rights cases. Riyadh District Court considered the lion's share at 35,167 cases, according to the Ministry of Justice. Jeddah District Court came second with 20,464 cases followed by Madina District Court at 8,527 cases, Dammam District Court at 6,100 and Al-Ahsa District Court at 5,653. Statistics also indicated that the month of Muharram registered the largest number of cases, at 8,417 followed by the month of Safar at 7,402 cases while in Ramadan and Dhul Hijja the number of cases reached 3,232 and 4,235 respectively. There are 1,500 judges at general and district courts, according to the ministry.
