March 1 was not just any other school day at the Bangladesh International School English (Girls) Section in Riyadh. On that day the Class of 2012, with the assistance of juniors, organized an event dubbed the Winter Fair 2012. The all-girl event, which began at 8 A.M. and ended at 1 P.M., had the theme “Winter and Snow.” The stage was adorned with paper-made snowflakes and featured a handcrafted snowman as a centerpiece. Students set up 16 stalls and tables on which they laid out abundant food prepared by their mothers, including pasta and pastries. There were stalls that sold accessories and showpieces, filling the grounds along with other stalls offering fun services like face paint and henna tattoos. Games such as pick the tail and coin in the bucket were also held, and winners received prizes. A “Creative Corner” was set up to showcase BISES students' talents in making art. Guests had to vote for the best piece and 9th grader Rahma Mirza's was adjudged the best. Faria Chowdhury, a 12th grader, was crowned “Snow Princess 2012” and received a sash. The guests included parents and teachers of students from middle school to high school. Grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 presented dance performances and karaoke numbers to entertain those present. The festive mood was in keeping with the tradition that started last Spring Fair 2011. — With input from Tasnuva T. Fariza, Sameeha Al-Sayed, Syeda A. Mina and Fariha Eshrat __
