Saudi Arabia confirmed its keenness to exert all possible efforts to avoid nuclear risks and accidents and said that it has signed the most important international conventions and treaties on the peaceful and safe uses of nuclear energy. Addressing the Nuclear Security Summit here Tuesday, the Head of the Saudi Delegation to the Summit and President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Dr. Hashim Bin Abdullah Yamani said that the Kingdom has announced its desire to adopt an ambitious program for the peaceful use of nuclear energy in line with its strategic objectives to diversify its energy sources and achieve sustainable development. He added that the Kingdom recognizes the importance of designing and establishing systems for the physical protection of nuclear facilities and resources in line with the objectives of physical protection and standards recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to achieve nuclear security. Dr. Yamani noted that Saudi Arabia supports United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 1540, and looks forward to the resolution being activated to enhance international cooperation to serve security and peace in the world. He also announced the Kingdom's donation of $500,000 in implementation of paragraph number seven of resolution No. 1977 according to which resolution No. 1540 was extended for 10 years.
