The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia confirmed its keenness on exerting all possible efforts to avoid nuclear risks and accidents, and that the Kingdom has signed on the most important international conventions and treaties on peaceful and safe uses of nuclear energy. Addressing Nuclear Security Summit here today, the Head of Saudi Delegation to the Summit and President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Dr. Hashim bin Abdullah Yamani said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced its desire for adoption of an ambitious program of peaceful uses of nuclear energy in line with its strategic objectives to diversify its energy sources and the achievement of sustainable development. He added that the Kingdom recognizes the importance of designing and establishing the systems of physical protection of nuclear facilities and resources in line with the objectives of physical protection and standards recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to achieve nuclear security. Dr. Yamani noted that the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports United Nations Security Council Resolution No. (1540), and looks forward that through this Summit the resolution will be activated to enhance international cooperation to serve the security and peace in the world, announcing the Kingdom's donation of $ 500,000 in implementation of paragraph number 7 of the resolution No 1977 according to which the resolution No. 1540 was extended for 10 years.
