Sibai has been awarded the first prize for the best article on environment by the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME). She shares the honor with Dr. Sulaiman Abdulaziz Al-Mesh'al who writes for Al-Eqtisadiyah newspaper. Prince Turki Bin Naser Bin Abdul Aziz, General President of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME), announced the names of the winners of the Prince Turki Bin Naser Prize for Environment in the Media in its first session. Cash prizes worth SR120,000 will be awarded to winners in five categories: best investigative report on environmental issues, best environmental protection article, best journalist in his/her environmental protection efforts, best photograph, and finally, best newspaper in promoting environmental awareness. Amal Al-Sibai has been writing for the Saudi Gazette for more than seven years on a wide range of topics including health, environment, parenting, and family. Her article that won the best article award was titled “Healthy Living Comes From a Healthy Planet.” The team of judges, which comprised academics and professionals in environmental science and meteorology, picked Al-Yawm newspaper as the best newspaper which dedicated the most of its printing space to environmental issues. As for the best photograph that portrays the importance of protecting the environment, Muhammad Al-Zahrani of Okaz and Khalid Mehdi Rasheed of Al-Bilad shared the honors. Muhammad Dawood of Okaz newspaper was chosen as the best journalist who had covered environmental protection issues. And the journalists that each won for writing the best investigative report were Yaser Ali Al-Maarek from Al-Jazeera and Ali Taleb Sharaya from Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspapers. The goal of the awards is to promote environmental awareness and to foster a strong sense of responsibility toward environment. The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment will be holding a ceremony to honor the winners and distribute the awards.
