A rest house being used to prepare food for a large company has been raided by Riyadh Mayoralty environmental health emergency teams and police. The teams uncovered a number of health violations and confiscated six tons of ready-made and stored foodstuffs. The director-general of the department of environment health of Riyadh Mayoralty, Sulaiman Al-Bathi said the teams also discovered 42 workers who did not have health licenses and found food being prepared in an unhygienic manner, Al-Iqtasadiyah Arabic daily reported Thursday. Al-Bathi said: “We found food on the ground and large quantities of chicken leftovers, uncovered food and trash cans. The workers were not wearing gloves and there was not enough ventilation. Some food was stored next to a toilet.” Seven men who did not have residence permits were arrested during the raid, and four other workers managed to escape. Al-Bathi said: “The representative of the company was asked to come to sign the closure report and to follow up with the concerned authorities.”
