Combined Brothers and Dr Hassan Gassawi Hospital-ACC B teams recorded victories in the 16th SIFF-Western Union Soccer 2012 at the Ministry of Education Stadium here Friday. Combined Brothers bounced back from its shock loss by blanking United Sports Club 2-0 while ACC-B broke the spirited defense of BRC with a solitary goal. In the other Second Division match, Young Challengers and ABC-Kerala XI drew goalless. The three-month long event is mainly sponsored by Western Union Money Transfer and supported by Al-Abeer Medical Group, Naseem Jeddah Hospital, Jeddah National Hospital and Rose Biriyani Rice. Combined Brothers looked a completely transformed side when they outplayed United in their second encounter. After a barren first half, Muneer Musliyarakath and Akbar Ali scored in that order to earn three vital points. Anees of Combined Brothers was selected as the Player of the Match. The second encounter was a fight between ABC goalkeeper Kasim Ali and Young Challengers Club which was denied a victory by the heroics of the custodian under the bar. Kasim made several fantastic saves and won the Player of the Match award. The third match saw both the teams attacking and counter attacking with ACC B keeping a slight edge. BRC which had lost its opener against Indian Schoolboys played a much-improved game while ACC struggled to get used to the ground. ACC, however, maintained an upperhand with better position game. It used both the flanks and looked a bit superior but BRC goalkeeper Naushad stood in their way. In the second half, however, ACC broke Naushad's resistance. Midway through the session Mohammed Shabir's long-range shot beat Naushad and the ball landed just on the goalmouth for Firoze to tap it home. Anoose of BRC was adjudged as the Player of the Match.
