A total of 21 laundries have been closed here by the city's mayoralty for repeatedly breaking health and safety regulations. City officials also destroyed nine out-of-date machines and fined the violating owners SR34,300. This comes after the Environmental Health Department of the Dammam Mayoralty inspected 470 laundries in the city. Officials issued 648 notices and 877 violation slips to laundries found violating health rules. After the inspections, the city authorities conducted 337 visits to the violating laundries to ensure they were fully compliant. As a result, the 21 shops that had repeated earlier offenses were shut down, and the owners fined. Dr. Khalifa Bin Abdullah Al-Saad said the Environmental Health Department wanted all laundries to abide by health regulations to ensure public safety. He said these violating laundries are contributing to the spread of infectious and skin diseases. The public can complain by calling the telephone number 940 or on the city's website [email protected].
