Retailers, food sector go for innovative packaging solutions to save costs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 28 - 02 - 2012

A decade had past, and yet both retailers and food producers still have particular regard for Tetra Pak's revolutionized food packaging solutions that are easy to use and minimize environmental impact aside from reducing costs and energizing sales.
Tetra Pak offers the widest range of innovative food processing and packaging solutions, supplying 6 billion cartons last year to Arabia's leading food brands.
Tetra Pak, the world's leading food processing and packaging solutions company, announced Monday that its Tetra Recart package has crossed a major milestone of 10 years in production with over a 100 brands in 40 markets. A decade later, the Recart packaging solution is still considered to be fresh and innovative by retailers and food producers, who need solutions that are easy to use, reduce costs, energize sales and minimize environmental impact.
In 2001, Tetra Pak revolutionized food packaging with the introduction of Tetra Recart. It was the first retortable carton package which enabled filled product to be sterilized within the package. A direct competitor to cans and jars, Tetra Recart can be filled with shelf-stable food products containing particles of almost any size – including vegetables, tomatoes, ready meals, soups and sauces, as well as pet food.
Tetra Recart is made mainly of wood fiber – a natural and renewable raw material. Cardboard fiber in the Tetra Recart package comes from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The Tetra Recart package also weighs 64 percent less than a can.
Jan Juul Larsen, managing director at Tetra Pak Arabia, said "Tetra Recarthas been well received in the Arabian Peninsula too since it was first introduced in 2006, Saudi Arabia's Al Rabie has been in the forefront having launched a full range of vegetable and tomato paste products for consumption across the Kingdom using Tetra Recart." “We are extremely proud of this product innovation, a true representation of our vision to make food safe and available everywhere," he said.
Tetra Recart was an exciting development made possible by invention of a unique packaging material and a new forming and sealing technique. Its rectangular shape and low package weight brings direct cost savings while reducing environmental impact and conveying a fresh, natural product image to consumers.
With more than 100 brands in 40 markets around the world using Tetra Recart to achieve sales and revitalize existing product ranges. Leading brands are choosing Tetra Recart as an environmentally responsible, strong, easy-to-stack and eye-catching alternative to meet consumer demands for safety, convenience and environmental performance in the 21st century.
