The Boston Bruins survived a late rally to continue their dominance of Northeast Division rivals Ottawa with a 5-3 road win over the Senators Saturday. Division-leading Boston (37-20-3) have won all four games against Ottawa this season and have an eight-game winning streak against them over the past two seasons. Boston, which has not lost to Ottawa since Nov. 2010, now leads the Senators by five points in the divisional standings. “I knew tonight was a big game because they're in our conference, chasing us,” Bruins goalie Tim Thomas told reporters following the final game of a six-game road trip. “It was a big game for us, the end of the road trip we want to go home with a good taste in our mouth.” Ottawa (32-23-8) opened the scoring early in the first period on a goal by Swedish defenseman Erik Karlsson but the Bruins countered with goals by Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. Carter Camper stretched the Bruins lead with his first NHL goal in the second period before David Krejci made it 4-1 for the Stanley Cup champions midway through the third. “I was able to get in on the forecheck and (Adam) McQuaid was able to get the puck to the net,” said Camper, who was playing in his third game. “I saw the empty net over my right shoulder and just squeezed it in there on the ice.” Back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart by Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson pulled the Senators back to 4-3 with two minutes remaining before Bergeron scored his second goal of the game into an empty net to seal the victory. Penguins 8, Lightning 1: Evgeni Malkin had his ninth career hat trick, Jordan Staal added two goals and the Pittsburgh Penguins won for the fifth time in seven games by routing the Tampa Bay Lightning 8-1. Chris Kunitz, Matt Cooke and Pascal Dupuis also scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 34 saves for Pittsburgh, which has won eight of nine home games and leapfrogged the New Jersey Devils in the crowded middle of the Eastern Conference playoff race. Malkin added an assist, taking over the NHL scoring lead just ahead of Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos, who had tied him with 11 points in his previous four games. Stamkos was held scoreless. Avalanche 4, Red Wings 3: Gabriel Landeskog had two goals, and Steve Downie added a goal and two assists as Colorado sent Detroit to a second straight home loss after the Red Wings had won 23 straight at Joe Louis Arena. Rangers 3, Sabres 2, OT: Ryan Callahan scored his 100th NHL goal 2:59 into overtime, and the New York Rangers beat Buffalo to snap a rare losing streak. Coyotes 3, Oilers 1: Mike Smith stopped 21 shots for his 10th straight victory and Phoenix beat Edmonton to move into sole possession of first place in the Pacific division. Predators 6, Sharks 2: Shea Weber scored two goals to lead Nashville over San Jose. Colin Wilson, Kevin Klein, Martin Erat and Nick Spaling also scored for Nashville, which has won three of its last four. The Predators also won their 16th in the last 20 home games. Elsewhere it was: Kings 4, Blackhawks 0; Blues 3, Jets 2, SO; Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 2; Panthers 3, Hurricanes 2, SO; Philadelphia 5 Calgary 4, SO.
