The winner, Dr. Fawaz Saeed Aal Humood, told Al-Watan Arabic daily that he was selected based on his academic record and research, and for having satisfied all the criteria for the award. Dr. Aal Humood graduated from the King Saud University College of Dentistry in 2007, magna cum laude, and was appointed the first teaching assistant at the Department of Prosthodontics (prosthetic dentistry) in 2008. He won a scholarship in 2009 to complete postgraduate studies in New Jersey. In 2010, he was appointed the head of resident doctors in the university in New Jersey. He had participated in nine global conferences over two years. Dr. Aal Humood was recently honored by Dr. Peter Dawson, founder of the award. Dr. Dawson is “well-known as a master dentist and icon of the dental profession. His teaching, writing, and personal influence have changed the lives of thousands of dentists worldwide, over a career that spans 50 plus years,” according to Cranio, a Journal of craniomandibular practice. The award, which was first instituted 10 years ago, is given to postgraduate student doctors around the world. Selection is based on the candidates' achievements as well as conferences and symposia they have attended. Each university nominates one doctor and a committee composed of 12 top doctors in the world selects the winner.
