The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with two other institutions to jointly organize the 12th International Conference on Islamic Economics and Finance, to be held in Makkah, Saudi Arabia in March 2018. IRTI is collaborating with Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah and the UK-based International Association of Islamic Economics (IAIE) to convene the conference. The MoU was signed during a ceremony on the sidelines of the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group in Jeddah. Director General of IRTI Prof. Mohamed Azmi Omar signed on behalf of IRTI, a representative of Dr. Saleh Al-Alagla signed for Umm Al-Qura University, and Dr. Abdullah Turkistani signed for IAIE. Under the MoU, the three institutions would provide coordination, logistics, and other necessary support to organize the conference. The conference is aimed to build upon the progress made in the past decades in the area of Islamic Economics and Finance, and to explore possibilities for the implementation of Islamic Economic theory in the real world in the light of current development challenges. In addition, the conference will mobilize quality policy-oriented and basic research in the field of Islamic Economics and Finance, focusing on contemporary development issues, among others. It will also provide a platform for discussion and dialogue among delegates and participants. — SG
