Mumbai notch biggest ever win in IPL, qualify for playoffs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 05 - 2017

Mumbai Indians earned the biggest win by runs in the Indian Premier League and qualified for the playoffs after routing Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs on Saturday
.
The Daredevils were bowled out for only 66 runs in 13.4 overs. That was in reply to Mumbai's 212-3, which was founded on half-centuries by Lendl Simmons (66) and Kieron Pollard (63 not out).
Mumbai eclipsed the IPL record of biggest win by runs, by Royal Challengers Bangalore last year when they beat Gujarat Lions by 144 runs.
Meanwhile, left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat took 5-30 and a hat trick in an impressive last maiden over as Rising Pune Supergiant defeated defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs.
Supergiant are second, and the Sunrisers fourth.
The Daredevils batting lineup was blown away just two days after they chased down the Lions' 209-run total at the same venue.
Legspinner Karn Sharma, 3-11, and offspinner Harbhajan Singh, 3-22, shared six wickets as the Daredevils couldn't recover after losing Sanju Samson to Mitchell McClenaghan's first ball in their run chase.
Simmons, playing his first IPL match of the season, smashed five fours and four sixes in making 66 off 43 balls. Together with Parthiv Patel, Simmons provided Mumbai an electrifying start of 79 off 52 deliveries before legspinner Amir Mishra had Patel stumped for 25.
Lendl departed in the 13th over when he was smartly snapped by Marlon Samuels at short fine leg but Pollard, promoted to No. 3, continued to push the scoring rate with some clean hitting.
Pollard and Hardik Pandya propelled the total by contributing 59 runs off the last 27 balls. Pat Cummins (0-59) was smashed for 23 runs in the last over.
Pollard hammered five fours and four sixes and consumed only 35 deliveries, while Pandya added a breezy unbeaten 29 off 14 balls with three sixes and a four.
At Hyderabd, needing 13 off the last six deliveries, Unadkat bowled three successive slower deliveries and registered the third hat trick of the league following Samuel Badree and Andrew Tye.
Bipul Sharma was caught in the deep off the first ball, Unadkat held on to Rashid Khan's skier off the second, and the hat trick was completed when IPL leading wicket-taker Bhuvneshwar Kumar offered a tame catch at mid-off.
The Sunrisers lost their first home game of the season and finished at 136-9.
"Well, brilliant to get through in a low-scoring game," Unadkat said. "I have been just sticking it to my strengths and I am really happy with the wickets."
Unadkat brought Supergiant back into the game when he struck twice in the 17th over by dismissing dangerman Yuvraj Singh (47) and Naman Ojha (9).
Ben Stokes top-scored with 39 off 25 balls in Supergiant's total of 148-8 and grabbed three key wickets of David Warner (40), Shikhar Dhawan (19) and Kane Williamson (4), beside grabbing two catches in the deep. — AP
