Gomez hits for the cycle again
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 01 - 05 - 2017

Carlos Gomez hit for the cycle for the second time in his career as the Texas Rangers recorded a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels Saturday.
Gomez went 4-for-4 and completed the cycle with his two-run homer in the seventh inning off Jose Valdez that put Texas up 6-2. Gomez doubled in the first, singled in the third and had an RBI triple as part of a four-run fifth inning for the Rangers that saw the club erase a 2-0 deficit.
Texas's Yu Darvish (3-2) struck 10 and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings.
Dodgers 6, Phillies 5: Adrian Gonzalez hit a walk-off single after Los Angeles homered three consecutive times to open the ninth inning, lifting the Dodgers to a victory over Philadelphia at Dodger Stadium.
Phillies closer Hector Neris (0-1) entered the ninth with his club leading 5-2 before serving up consecutive home runs to Yasiel Puig and rookie Cody Bellinger, who hit the second of his first two major league homers. Justin Turner followed as a pinch hitter and delivered his first homer of the season, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 15 games and tying the score at 5.
Braves 11, Brewers 3: Matt Kemp hit three home runs and Jaime Garcia worked six innings as Atlanta defeated Milwaukee.
Garcia (1-1) battled with his command, walking a season-high five batters, but held the Brewers to a pair of runs while only allowing three hits with three strikeouts. Milwaukee's Jimmy Nelson (1-2) gave up five runs and 11 hits in five innings.
The Braves' offense backed him up with a season-best 20-hit performance, including a home run by Dansby Swanson. Atlanta hadn't recorded 20 hits in a game since 2008.
Yankees 12, Orioles 4: Aaron Judge slugged his American League-leading 10th home run and scored four times as New York continued its roll with a victory over Baltimore.
Judge became the first AL player to reach double digits when he homered into the Yankees bullpen beyond the center field wall on a 1-0 pitch from Jayson Aquino. Before hitting fourth home run against the Orioles, Judge drew two walks and singled.
Brett Gardner and Austin Romine combined for three home runs and nine RBIs for New York. The contributions from their leadoff and ninth-place hitters helped the Yankees win for the 14th time in the last 17 games.
Rockies 7, Diamondbacks 6: Mark Reynolds tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning and Colorado scored the winning run on a wild pitch one batter later to erase a 6-1 deficit and defeat Arizona.
Mets 5, Nationals 3: Michael Conforto homered twice and drove in three runs as New York beat first-place Washington, winning for the second straight day after a six-game losing streak.
Cubs 7, Red Sox 4: Kyle Schwarber's go-ahead RBI single helped spark a three-run seventh inning as Chicago rallied past Boston.
Pirates 4, Marlins 0: Ivan Nova pitched a three-hit shutout with no walks to lead Pittsburgh to its season-high fourth straight victory.
Athletics 2, Astros 1: Andrew Triggs worked seven shutout innings and Khris Davis belted his fifth home run against Houston this season in Oakland's victory.
White Sox 6, Tigers 4 (10 innings): Melky Cabrera hit a home run to lead off the 10th inning and Chicago extended its winning streak to six games by beating slumping Detroit.
Indians 4, Mariners 3: Jose Ramirez and Lonnie Chisenhall had two-run hits in the first inning and Danny Salazar pitched into the seventh inning as Cleveland beat Seattle in a game in which all the runs were scored in the first inning.
Blue Jays 4, Rays 1: Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer, Francisco Liriano pitched into the sixth inning and Toronto ended a three-game losing streak by defeating Tampa Bay.
Padres 12, Giants 4: Wil Myers crushed a three-run home run to cap an eight-run sixth inning Saturday night that allowed San Diego to erase a deficit en route to a triumph over San Francisco. — Reuters
