Bahith Qur'an program in mobile phones Q1. I have Qur'an in my mobile which I download from the Internet for recitation. Sometimes I go to toilet with my mobile in my pocket. Is it forbidden to take mobile phones with Qur'an apps to the toilet? Have I committed a sin in doing so? – Fawad Ahmed A1. The Qur'an program in electronic devices like mobile phones doesn't comply with the rules of a printed Mushaf. Therefore, it is okay to enter the bathroom with such devices, however, when you want to use the toilet you should turn off the Qur'an program or any other programs that contain Islamic knowledge. Purchase in cash or by installments Q2. Is it permissible to state one price for a product if the buyer is going to pay for it in cash, and another price if the buyer is going to pay for it in installments? For example, a car costs fifty thousand in cash and sixty thousand in installments. A2. Yes, it is permissible as long as both the buyer and the seller mutually agree on one of the two choices. An agreement should be drawn before making the purchase. Sheikh Bin Baz (May Allah have mercy on him) said, “There is nothing wrong in selling by installments, if the period of time and the installments are known (fixed), even if the price by installments is more than the cash price, because the buyer and the seller both benefit from the system of installments. The seller benefits from the increase in price and the buyer benefits from the respite.” Division of property and inheritance Q3. A husband dies and after sometime the wife also dies. She leaves behind some personal belongings and some wealth in the form of property and cash. They also have a son and a daughter. Before dying, the wife said that some part of her personal belongings be given to needy relatives. Now, what about the property left? – Irfan A Khalid, Jeddah A3. First of all her share of inheritance from her husband who passed away should be known, then her will of giving some part of her wealth to the needy relatives should be deducted and must be given away to them. Apart from it all debts on her part should be paid off . Whatever left after this should be divided between her legal heirs, and her heirs in this case are her children, the son will take two-third and her daughter will take one-third. As Allah said, “Allah commands you as regards your children's (inheritance); to the male, a portion equal to that of two females. (Qur'an, 4:11) Allah knows best. __
