RIYADH — On the occasion of World Health Day, Exir Medical Clinic organized health awareness drive and free medical camp for obesity at Madina Hypermarket here. On the occasion a "Weight Loss Challenge" was announced. Around 300 members registered for the weight loss challenge, most of them families. Under the challenge the registered will be treated and monitored by the panel of doctors from the clinic. The participants had a consultation with Exir Medical Clinic‘s doctors, who after going through their medical health details and BMI evaluation, put the participants in the program. The members were committed to lose weight under the supervision of the concerned doctor within the period of 90 days. After the 90 days period, the clinic doctors will evaluate the members. Those who achieve the target weight as per their BMI, will be awarded gifts by Al Madina Hypermarket and Exir Medical Clinic. Dr. Shaheryar said that many health issues are related to overweight and obesity is a great dilemma. He said Saudi Arabia is the second country in the world after United States with the most numbers of obese people, who are getting more and more prone to obesity related diabetes mellitus and other cardiovascular diseases. He also spoke about risk factors of obesity and its control. He gave an idea about keeping oneself within the limits of BMI and further advised about different diet plans to control obesity and for weight loss. Dr. Ghazala Raouf (Obstetrician & Gynecologist), Dr. Shaheryar Khan (General Physician), Dr. Mahboob Alam (General Physician) and Dr. Abu Baker Saied (General Surgeon) participated in the free medical camp. The free medical awareness camp and weight loss challenge is an effort made by Exir Medical Clinic to bring health awareness to a large section of citizen and residents in Riyadh. Their focus was particularly families and housewives who suffer overweight issue. Overweight is the main cause for chronic diseases like, diabetes, blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint pains, etc. The panel of doctors advised various weight loss plans and explained how to maintain proper diet, and streamline daily activities with physical exercise. The participants in the challenge need to go for consultations every 15 days and update their health condition to their respective physicians. Marketing Manager Mirza Afsar Baig highlighted the main features of the weight loss challenge. He said the clinic is committed to do more and more efforts to deliver the health awareness through multiple campaigns in the future as well. The clinic is managed by Capt.
