South Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Joo Hyunghwan, accompanied by other top Korean officials, visited King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh on Wednesday. They were received by the center's president Nadhmi Al-Nasr, senior managers and researchers. During the visit, the minister learned about KAPSARC's vision and goals, and its development of research into energy economics, policy, technology and the environment, across all types of energy. He also gained an understanding of the range of KAPSARC's joint international and local projects, especially those related to supporting the National Transformation Program and the Saudi Vision 2030. During the visit, a discussion took place about the bilateral relationship between KAPSARC and Korean research centers and the need to transfer the energy economics-related knowledge to Saudi Arabia. KAPSARC currently works on a number of joint research and study projects with leading Korean institutes. These include a joint research program with the Korean Energy Economics Institute focusing on the security and future of clean energy, and involving several Saudi researchers. KAPSARC is a global institution dedicated to independent research. Its mandate is to advance the understanding of energy challenges and opportunities facing the world through high-caliber research for the benefit of all societies, including both exporters and importers of energy. — SG
