The Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the War of Liberation in the morning of 26 March at the Embassy premises marking the 46th Independence and National day 2017 of Bangladesh. At the beginning of the program national flag was ceremonially hoisted by Bangladesh Ambassador Golam Moshi. Deputy Chief of the Mission, Minister Dr. Mohammed Nazrul Islam, Mohammad Shah Alam Chowdhury, defense attaché and other officers and staff of the Embassy and Bangladeshi political and social organization here also attended the programme. Honoring the day, the program was started with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an and reading out of the messages of the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. Several expatriates, including freedom fighters, teachers, members of the political parties and students attended the ceremony. As a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the Great War of Liberation in 1971, speakers recalled the valiant martyrs with heartfelt gratitude. They remembered the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his grand leadership and immense sacrifice of his life for the freedom of the country. Speakers from the different representative groups paid tribute and honor to the martyrs who made supreme sacrifices for the country. Goalm Moshi in his speech called upon all Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia to work hard for the betterment of the image of Bangladesh in the Kingdom and urge them to remit through banking channel for the continuing economic growth of Bangladesh. Highlighting the significance and spirit of the day, he underlined the need for renewing the commitment and reinforcing concerted efforts for the development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the evening a colorful National Day reception program was arranged at Tuwaiq Palace, Diplomatic Quarter. Ceremonial program was inaugurated by Prince Faisal Bin Bandar, Governor of Riyadh. Members of Diplomatic corps, professionals, intellectuals and members of the Bangladeshi community graced the program. — SG
