Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel and Matt Cullen also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions. Matt Murray stopped 29 shots for his third shutout this season and the fourth of his career.
Pittsburgh broke it open with three third-period goals past Ryan Miller. Crosby fed a streaking Guentzel down the slot 2:27 into the third to make it 2-0 and pull Crosby within a point of becoming the 86th player in NHL history to reach 1,000.
Miller made 38 saves while under siege for most of the night as the Penguins remained unbeaten in regulation since the All-Star break (5-0-2).
Ducks 1, Wild 0: John Gibson stopped 37 shots and Joseph Cramarossa scored as the Anaheim Ducks shut out the Minnesota Wild.
Minnesota peppered the Anaheim net in all three periods, but were shut out at home for the second time this season.
Gibson recorded his fourth shutout of the season while the Wild's Devan Dubnyk made 22 saves.
Minnesota fell behind early and were frustrated by Gibson throughout.
The Wild failed to score on five power plays, coming within an inch of
scoring when a long-range slap shot by Christian Folin hit the inside of the right post, sailed through the crease and to the side boards.
Maple Leafs 7, Islanders 1: Auston Matthews scored two goals, and Josh Leivo had a goal and two assists in Toronto's rout of New York.
Nazem Kadri and William Nylander each had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who completed a four-game homestand 2-1-1.
Tyler Bozak and Matt Hunwick also scored for Toronto while Frederik Andersen made 33 saves.
Jason Chimera scored on a penalty shot for the Islanders.
Thomas Greiss made 28 stops before being replaced by Jean-Francois Berube after the sixth goal.
Oilers 5, Coyotes 2: Leon Draisaitl, Matt Hendricks, Mark Letestu, Oscar Klefbom and Patrick Maroon scored as Edmonton defeated Arizona.
Cam Talbot stopped 23 shots for Edmonton.
Josh Jooris and Martin Hanzal scored for Arizona. Louis Domingue made 28 saves.
Jets 5, Stars 2: Rookie Patrik Laine recorded his third hat trick of the season to lift Winnipeg over Dallas.
Laine's third goal was scored into an empty net at 1:02 and 46 seconds after Blake Wheeler's empty-netter made it 4-2.
Joel Armia also scored for the Jets while Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves.
Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin scored for the Stars. Antti Niemi stopped 19 shots.
Sabres 3, Senators 2: Robin Lehner made 39 saves as Buffalo came from behind to defeat Ottawa.

Bobby Ryan and Dion Phaneuf had Ottawa's goals. Craig Anderson made 22 saves.
Devils 3, Avalanche 2: Kyle Palmieri scored his 15th goal of the season and Cory Schneider made 28 saves as New Jersey defeated struggling Colorado.
