British rider Mark Cavendish won the third stage of the Tour of Qatar Tuesday while former champion Tom Boonen of Belgium retained the golden jersey. Cavendish outsprinted Boonen to earn his first win for Team Sky on the 146.5-km stage from Dukhan to Al-Gharafa Stadium. Aidis Kruopis of Lithuania was third. “I am really very happy. We did a lot better than we planned,” Cavendish said. “I am still not 100 percent but I want to ride well for the team. Today it all came down to the sprint. My team did well today as the wind picked up.” Boonen, riding for Omega-Pharma Quick Step, increased his overall lead over American rider Tyler Farrar to 6 seconds, and third-placed Cavendish by 8 seconds. “I think I took off a little bit late at the finish but we still have three stages to go,” Boonen said. “For anybody interested in winning the golden jersey, he has to finish in the top three every day and I did that today also. I have a good average now.” Contador a cheat: WADA chief The president of the World Anti-Doping Agency says Alberto Contador should be considered a “cheat” now that he has been found guilty of doping and stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title. WADA President John Fahey says anyone found with a banned substance in their body “is a cheat. It is as simple as that.” Fahey, who was speaking Tuesday in an interview with The Associated Press, says that Monday's ruling against Contador by the Court of Arbitration for Sport was “clear.” The Swiss sports court held the Spaniard responsible for his positive doping test at the 2010 Tour, which he won. It rejected Contador's claim that eating a contaminated steak caused his failed test.
