The Kingdom's electricity demand is growing by eight percent annually, the highest rate in the world, said Dr. Muhammad Bin Ibrahim Al-Suwail, President of the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). He said the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency, which was set up by the Council of Ministers, will support the state's efforts to rationalize the consumption of electricity in line with global rates by 2020, ensure efficient use and pool expertise to tackle problems in the sector. Al-Suwail made the comments while addressing a global workshop on energy efficiency and policies in the Kingdom, at KACST's headquarters in Riyadh on Monday. A number of issues were discussed at the workshop, including opportunities to save energy in the industrial sector. Dr. Naif Bin Muhammad Al-Abadi addressed the first session which focused on the tasks and challenges facing the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency. The second session tackled sustainability management and preservation of the energy in the chemical industries; while the third and fourth sessions focused on cutting the consumption of electricity.
