A Jeddah Mayoralty official charged with involvement in the flood case has been acquitted by the Administrative Court at the Bureau of Grievances in Jeddah Governorate. The cleaning monitor was accused of taking a bribe and has already served two months in prison. The Prosecutor General is now seeking to appeal the verdict and demanding the official be charged with taking a bribe. The defendant was accused of taking some money from people and giving it to an engineer working at the department of land encroachment at Jeddah Mayoralty. The Prosecutor General said the accused admitted he received SR250,000 to give a women permission to build a house in the Old Airport District and another SR250,000 from a municipality official. He then demanded that the accused be punished for the crime of bribery. “The just judiciary system brought justice to my client and acquitted him of bribery charges. I was confident that my client was innocent from the outset because he didn't receive any money or act as an intermediary between any parties,” Saad Bin Ahmed Al-Bahouth, the lawyer of the defendant. “The charges leveled against my client were on the wrong basis, were surrounded by doubt and that's why the court acquitted my client,” the lawyer proclaimed. __
