DAMMAM — The Penal Court here has sentenced a man for a year in prison and imposed a fine of SR30,000 for advocating repeal of the guardianship law in the Kingdom. A source said the court charged the man with violations against the information crimes law. The court also ordered seizure of his mobile device. "The man was also charged with indecency as he had a social media account that posted pornography images. The man had also posted posters in Arabic and English on mosques in Al-Ahsa advocating repeal of the guardianship law in the Kingdom and freeing women from it," said the source. The source also said the plaintiff explained his motive for his campaign against the guardianship law by saying that he has women relatives who are suffering from the law and he wishes to give them equality rights. The man confessed that he hung posters at seven places. "The man said he had no accomplices. He wrote the text of the poster on his phone and then printed it on paper. The man also said that he is not a mental and neurological patient," the source said.
