A light rail train in Jeddah and a bus service and metro train in Riyadh have been approved by the Ministry of Transport, said Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Awhali, Undersecretary for Transportation Affairs at the Ministry of Transport. Al-Awhali was quoted in Al-Watan newspaper on Saturday as saying that this approval forms part of the ministry's overall transport plan for the entire country. However, he added that funds have not yet been allocated for the projects in Jeddah and Riyadh. He said the transport plan is aimed at reducing traffic jams and bottlenecks on the Kingdom's busy roads. He said the ministry is in the process of carrying out studies to develop public transport services for other parts of the Kingdom including Hail, Abha, Khamis Mushayt and Uhud Rufaidah.
