18 family row causes listed
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 22 - 03 - 2008

Under the “Bin Baz Project to Help Youths Get Married”, 60 experts in sociology, psychology and Shariah counted 18 reasons for family problems in the Kingdom.
Family consultant Dr. Abdullah Bin Nasir Al-Sadhan said the reasons were arranged according to importance and, accordingly, outbursts of temper and violence by the man of the family topped the list.
Other reasons are: wife's excessive jealousy, husband's sexual cheating, emotional “coldness”, drug and liquor use, suspicion and lack of commitment to religious duties like prayer, wife's stubbornness, husband exploiting the wife financially, addiction to porn movies, husband's lack of justice if he has more than one wife, husband evading the responsibility of raising the kids, lack of communication between couples. Husband's nuisance phone calls and lastly, lack of understanding of each other's needs.
Al-Mawaddah Center in Jeddah (Mawaddah means love between married couples) has specified eight main marital problems.
These include parental intervention in the private lives of married couples, husband abusing the wife, the wife walking out of the marriage, hidden diseases that prevent sexual relations, sons' disobedience, moral problems, Misyar marriage, and sorcery. The Center has tackled 70% of 7900 marital cases referred to it in the past two years.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Mubarak Al-Dojain, director general of Bin Baz Charitable Project for Helping Youths to get Married told Al-Watan Arabic daily that the project, since its inception, has paid more than SR89 million to help 8,953 youths.
Shariah family affairs consultant Sheikh Sa'ad Al-Saqr said Saudi families are subject to a great danger by being exposed to the customs and conventions of non-Islamic communities. He also noted the adverse influence of satellite television channels on the family.
He said that given the situation it is necessary to offer married couples and families guidance, direct and by phone.
He cited an incident of an 18-year-old girl who left the house and ran away with a man after her father attempted to marry her off against her wishes.
The girl was caught and called the “family guidance through the phone,” which is under Bin Baz Project. __
