The New York Times recently posted the following on its Twitter Account: "We would like to communicate with Saudi women. Tell us about your lives, ambitions and opinions in the Saudi community." A photo of two Saudi women standing in front of a jewelry shop was posted on the account together with a link to a documentary called "Women First," which focuses on the participation of Saudi women in municipal elections. The film emphasizes that Saudi women continue to suffer in a male-dominant society. The above tweet aims to get as many stories as possible from interested Saudi women. I have something to say to the New York Times. All over the world, both men and women are searching for their rights and freedom. It is something universal. People who have their own values and traditions will never accept imported freedoms. Let me remind the newspaper of what happened in 2003 when the Bush government promised the Iraqi people that it would bring democracy to their country. It brought nothing but destruction. Today, Iraq is drowned in chaos, sectarian violence and destruction. The threat of being fragmented and sold to neighboring countries looms over it. We are not gullible. No sane Saudi man or woman will fall for such a tweet. We know what we want and when. I urge all Saudis to be careful about such calls from foreign newspapers and deal with them with suspicion. We know the real goals and intentions of such calls and who is behind them.
