The Hurricanes (2-3-2) hadn't won a home opener since 2008. Mats Zuccarello scored both goals for the Rangers, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Jets 1, Avalanche 0: Michael Hutchinson had 37 saves for his first shutout of the season, Shawn Matthias scored the game's lone goal and Winnipeg beat Colorado. Joel Armia and Josh Morrissey had assists for the Jets, who have won two straight. Hutchinson was sharp recording 20 saves in recording his third career shutout. Flames 5, Senators 2: Dougie Hamilton had two goals and an assist to lead Calgary over Ottawa at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Nick Folligno added three assists and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky matched his season high with 35 saves for his second shutout as the Blue Jackets earned their third victory in five games and finished their first road trip 2-1-1. Anaheim goalie John Gibson tied his season best with 28 saves before Dustin Tokarski replaced him with 9:47 to play. Tokarski finished with five saves as the Ducks suffered their second loss in three games. Oilers 2, Canucks 0: Connor McDavid scored on a second-period breakaway and goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 26 shots for the shutout as Edmonton defeated Vancouver to extend its winning streak to five games. Milan Lucic, who also had an assist, scored into an empty net with 1:20 left in the third period. Edmonton has won seven of eight games this season.
