The news story of the little girl who was slaughtered recently in Al-Ahsa was shocking in the full sense of the word. Many members of the public asked the same question: How did this happen and why do heinous crimes like this take place? The little girl's throat was slit by none other than her stepmother. What is strange is that every time we hear about such stories, we react with shock and start asking many questions, and yet we do nothing about it. I do not remember the public doing anything to protest the terrible crimes that have taken place over the past years. All we read and hear about are reactions with no actions having been taken. Globalization might be blamed for such crimes. It seems that some people have lost their religious compass and human values. Hard economic conditions could be another reason why some people commit such horrible crimes. Satan has got the best of us and has convinced some to kill and slaughter in cold blood. I do not think such crimes will stop in the near future. We need collective social work to stop such things from happening. Our civil institutions should come together to study these crimes and suggest solutions. If we do not take action, then we have not learned our lessons properly.
