JEDDAH — The number of family lawsuits in Jeddah has increased by 50 percent in comparison to last year. A source said there have been 20,000 family cases during the past eight months. "4,000 of the 20,000 cases were claims over marital rights such as divorce, alimony, custody and visitation. The Personal Court issued 19,243 verdicts, an increase by 50 percent in comparison to last year. On the other hand, a total of 6,961 marriage contracts were convened," said the source. The source also said the court reported there are 3,895 rights claims documents and 11,127 terminal document. "The number of online marriage contracts convened for non-Saudis or Saudis and non-Saudis reached 11,182 contracts. The Personal Court has 20 departments underneath it. All contracts and verdicts are digitally documented and connected to the information center in Riyadh," said the source. The source also said the total number of cases reviewed by the Ministry of Justice during the past year reached 300,000 cases. "25 percent of the cases were cases of rights, 24 percent of the cases were cases of personal status, 51 percent of the cases were penal cases," said the source.
