Sabres snap losing streak on the road
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 26 - 01 - 2012

Jason Pominville and Nathan Gerbe scored in a shootout and Ryan Miller made 27 saves as the Buffalo Sabres snapped a 12-game losing streak on the road with a 2-1 victory over Devils Tuesday.
Pominville ripped a shot over the glove of Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur on the Sabres' third and possibly final shootout attempt. Miller made a pad save on the rookie Adam Henrique on the Devils' fourth attempt, and Gerbe gave Buffalo its first road win since Dec. 3 by beating Brodeur.
Defenseman Jordan Leopold scored a fluke first-period goal for Buffalo. Gerbe ripped a shot from the top of the left circle that missed the net. The puck hit the glass behind the net and landed in the right edge of the crease for an easy tap-in by Leopold.
Maple Leafs 4, Islanders 3: Clarke MacArthur's second goal of the game at 2 minutes 6 seconds of overtime lifted Toronto to a victory in Uniondale.
Capitals 5, Bruins 3: Mathieu Perreault got his first career hat trick, including the tiebreaking goal in the third period, to lead host Washington over Boston.
Lightning 4, Blue Jackets 2: Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis scored to lead host Tampa Bay over Columbus.
Flyers 3, Panthers 2: Claude Giroux scored the only goal in a shootout and Philadelphia beat host Florida. Giroux beat Scott Clemmensen to give the Flyers their first shootout victory this season.
Coyotes 3, Senators 2: Radim Vrbata scored early in the third period and host Phoenix withstood Ottawa's comeback.
Wild 3, Avalanche 2: Carson McMillan broke a tie midway through the third period after stealing the puck at center ice and Niklas Backstrom stopped 24 shots as Minnesota halted an 11-game winless streak away from home with a victory over Colorado.
Other results: Rangers 3, Jets 0; Canucks 3, Oilers 2; Penguins 3, Blues 2; Predators 3, Blackhawks 1; Stars 1, Ducks 0; Sharks 1, Flames 0.
