Hameed CC beat Muzaffar XI by 39 runs to claim the second WCT (Warangal Champions Trophy) Independence Cup here recently. The hard tennis ball cricket tournament was organized by WCT in association with GK International Indian Sports Club (GKIISC) and sponsored by FRiENDi mobile. This was the second tournament played under Saudi Softball Federation and supported by Saudi Cricket Center (SCC). It was played as part of the celebration of Indian Independence Day. Muzaffar XI captain Hussain won the toss and elected to field. Opener Zaffar gave a solid start with 54 (40 ball — 4x6, 6x2). Hammed CC reached 102 after 12 overs. Following a drinks break, Hameed CC came back all gun blazing. Its lusty hitting in the last 4 overs took the total to 159 in the stipulated 16 overs. Moin (2-31) and Mujahid (2-37) were the main wicket-takers. Muzaffar XI lost opener Irfan for naught. Muzaffar XI lost wickets at regular intervals in the first session and managed only 63-5. Mujahid (27 – 4x4, 6x0), Hussain (21) lifted the score in the second session but still fell short of the target. At the end of innings Muzaffar XI had scores 120-9. Mehraj picked up four wickets. Mehraj was declared the Star of the Day and Danish the Player of the Tournament. Hameed CC captain Zaffar received the winner's cup amidst cheers by a large gathering of cricket enthusiasts and dignitaries. President and Founder of GK International Indian Sports Club (GKIISC) Dr. Gayas Ahmed Sattar presented the trophy. Zaffar described it as the best final he has played and his dream of winning this cup for his team was fulfilled. Sohail Siddiqui, communication and channel marketing manager FRiENDi mobile, presented the runner-up cup to Muzaffar XI captain Hussain, who praised the standard of the tournament and the tense final.
