Saudi Gazette MANILA — The San Miguel Beermen booked a quarterfinals berth with a fiercely fought 110-106 victory over the Meralco Bolts in the PBA Governors' Cup Wednesday night. Current and two-time MVP June Mar Fajardo led the Beermen with a double-double output of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Singletary, a former PBA import who once played for Barako Bull, suited up for SMB, this time to replace injured Arizona Reid. Singletary finished with 21 points, 20 rebounds and five assists. Arwind Santos fired 19 points for SMB while Alex Cabagnot scored 18, including two huge baskets at clutch time. With the win, SMB moved up to 6-2, tying Barangay Ginebra and Mahindra for second to fourth place. TNT KaTropa 122, GlobalPort 120 The TNT KaTropa led by as many as 23 points but had to fight for dear life in the homestretch against the resurgent GlobalPort Batang Pier to settle for a close 122-120 victory, their seventh in eight games. TNT thus bolstered its bid for the top seeding in the quarterfinals.
