The Saudi German Hospital (SGH) performed its first successful liver transplantation surgery. Under the supervision of a highly specialized medical and surgical team, the operation was performed on 32-year-old Yemeni patient. The patient had suffered for many years from hepatic failure with abdominal ascites and bloody bouts of vomiting ad frequent hepatic coma. The donor was the patient's 30-year-old brother, who donated the right lobe of his liver. After performing all the necessary tests and getting the approval of the Saudi Council for Organ Transplantation, the surgery was performed by taking the donor's right lobe of the liver and transplanting it to the patient by connecting the hepatic artery, portal, hepatic veins and the bile ducts. Saudi Council for Organ Transplantation consultants were in attendance. The medical team consisted of 25 doctors from various specialties, and the team performed the surgery successfully in 10 hours, according to a pres release. The patient was transferred to Intensive Care for four days and then transferred to the regular room, specially equipped for him. This is the first time that such a complicated surgery was performed at the Saudi German Hospital here. The successful operation is proof of the medical progress in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the support of Saudi government. The Yemeni patient, after the successful surgery thanked the Kingdom and the Saudi the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, second deputy premier and minister of defense, for their humanitarian efforts, especially providing support for brotherly countries like Yemen, where the Kingdom provides all medical and food aid. "We ask Allah to protect the leadership and the people of Saudi Arabia," the Yemeni patient said.
