DAMMAM — The Control and Investigation Board here is investigating over 23 cases of corruption in Al-Ahsa Municipality. A source said Dammam Penal Court is looking into the corruption cases which involve 16 suspects in total, three of them directors of departments in the municipality. "The corruption cases wasted SR68 million of the municipality's budget. The Dammam Control and Investigation Board presented 395 pieces of evidence to the court. The suspects are accused of forgery and an irresponsible use of the municipality's money in various projects," said the source. The source also said 15 of the suspects are Saudi and one of them is an Egyptian engineer. "The suspects are employees and directors at Al-Ahsa Municipality, executive directors and employees of partnering companies and associations, company representatives and engineers," said the source. The source also said one of these projects is building pedestrian walkways and pavements by Al-Aqeer Shore. "The total cost of the project is SR3.9 million. The board revealed six corruption incidents in the execution and management of this projects. The corruption cases include several accounts of forgery of official documents. Two of the suspects were involved in corruption cases related to this project," said the source. The source also said another project headed by Al-Ahsa Municipality is installing 20 cisterns, each with the capacity of a million liters. "There were two suspects involved in corruption cases in this project. The suspects are accused of forging official documents and using money irresponsibly. The total cost of this project is SR11.9 million," said the source.
