Jubaili JAZAN — Teams from Civil Defense evacuated 29 families whose homes were damaged by the heavy rains which also seeped into the departure lounge of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz airport delaying flights and causing havoc among passengers. Civil Defense spokesman, Maj. Yahya Al-Qahtani, said the families were accommodated in temporary homes until their houses were repaired. He said a 14-year-old Saudi boy was drowned in the floods of Wadi (valley) Damad and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. The spokesman said most of the information they received were about water leaking into the houses, cars being besieged and electrocution cases. Qahtani asked citizens and expatriates not to venture crossing the valleys while they are flooding and to keep away from the water logs and sources of power generation. Work in the departure lounge at the airport had to stop after water leaked into the halls. An airport source said the computers were disrupted and the electric equipment on the first and second floors of the airport went dead. He said a number of luggage were damaged or washed away by the floods and many flights were delayed or canceled causing congestion of passengers at the airport.
