New detour in Riyadh to make way for metro station
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 01 - 08 - 2016

Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) has announced a new traffic detour in central Riyadh to build a metro station in the area. Work for the station on Riyadh Metro project's Blue Line (the Olaya-Batha axis) started on Thursday.
The detour located at the intersection of two major avenues next to the Kingdom Tower entails closing the road for traffic at the intersection both westward and eastward, but traffic movement between Olaya Street and Musaeid Al-Anqari Street will continue as a substitute arrangement.
The detour provides alternative passage for drivers and commuters coming from the west and heading to the east across Orouba Road. They can turn southward and then head east through Khalid Bin Al-Waleed Street in front of Al-Hammadi Hospital, head north through Al-Al-Anqari Street to return to Orouba Road.
Those traveling from east to west across Orouba Road can go northward through Al-Anqari Street, turn to west across Prince Sultan Bin Salman Street and then turn southward across Olaya Street to get back on Orouba Road.
The new detour provided a set of traffic improvements at the site, which included the removal of the traffic light at the intersection of Olaya Street and Orouba Road, reducing duration of the traffic light at the intersection of King Fahd Road and Orouba Road to mitigate congestion and waiting time at these points.
These steps are expected increase inflow of vehicles around the project site.
ADA has also organized a field visits to the work-site, led by a specialized team of project officials to inform residents and owners of commercial activities, adjacent to the site, on the traffic detour, temporary procedures and regulations associated with it, in order to ensure safety, smooth flow of traffic and continuity of trading during the project implementation.
In conjunction with the launch of the new detour, ADA has updated the app called Dalilat Arriyadh (Riyadh Guide), which allows motorists to identify traffic detours across the city as well as alternative routes and travel options. The app can be downloaded to smart devices from electronic stores, or at the project's website: www.riyadh-metro.com
The ADA has dedicated the unified number 19933 to receive complaints, inquiries and suggestions from the public about the project. People can also use various social networking sites to contact the authority regarding the project.
