Dr. Lubna Abdulrahman Al-Ansari, who works as a professor of family and community medicine at King Saud University, was appointed to the Shoura Council in 2013 by King Abdullah. She also serves a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Network for Clinical Practicing Guidelines, a founding member of the National Society for Human Rights, and a member of the International Parliamentary Union. She is the former head of family medicine unit, School of Medicine, King Saud University and member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Al-Ansari participated in preparing the first draft of the Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Born in Riyadh, Al-Ansari was raised by parents who were highly educated. Her grandfather, Sheikh Muhammad Al-Tayeb Al-Ansari, is a renowned scholar in Madinah who dedicated his entire life to teaching religion and Shariah. Her father Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ansari is the founder of archeology in the country. "I learned from my father his love for perfection, integrity and the importance of making unbiased decisions. He taught me my level of education is what I am worth and nothing else. It is all about education," she said. She went to Islamic schools and was taught by highly respected teachers who instilled in her the importance of punctuality and the search for knowledge wherever it led her. She is teaching her three children the same values she was taught when she was a young woman. She encourages her children to have self-confidence and be different from others and does her best to find time in her busy schedule to be with them. In her free time, she loves to read, work out and learn new things. Lately, she has started taking Spanish courses. "I have always loved the Spanish language and wanted to speak it. It is important because a large number of people around the world speak Spanish, which has a lot of English and Arabic words," she said. After graduating from high school, Al-Ansari enrolled in the School of Medicine at King Saud University and that is when her interest in family medicine started. She enrolled in a graduate degree program in family medicine at a British university and joined King Saud University as a faculty member after her graduation. She completed her postgraduate studies in the same field. Today Al-Ansari is the author of over 40 papers and has translated two books and co-written several others. She is also the director of the Bahmdan Chair for Healthcare at KSU. Despite her achievements, Al-Ansari has higher ambitions. She wants to do more for her country and has promised herself to work hard to improve the Kingdom's healthcare sector. She will continue to teach at the university, offer her services at various clinics, participate in seminars and symposiums and work with other civil institutions for the betterment of her country.
