Pirates rally to beat Cubs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 10 - 07 - 2016

Andrew McCutchen had three hits, including an RBI single in a decisive four-run seventh, as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied for a rare victory over the visiting Chicago Cubs and Jake Arrieta, 8-4 Friday night.
John Jaso's RBI single tied the score at 4-4 and chased Arrieta (12-4), who had beaten the Pirates in all three previous starts this season and entered with a 9-1 career record against them. The Cubs had also won eight of the first nine meetings with Pittsburgh this year.
Nationals 3, Mets 1: Stephen Strasburg (12-0) stayed undefeated, winning a marquee pitching matchup against an ailing Noah Syndergaard by tossing seven strong innings for visiting Washington.
Clint Robinson hit a two-run homer for the Nationals, going deep for the second consecutive night, and Daniel Murphy added an RBI double against his former team.
Marlins 3, Reds 1: Jose Fernandez allowed an unearned run in seven innings to lift host Miami. Christian Yelich homered and drove in two runs and Derek Dietrich also knocked in a run for the Marlins, who returned home after a 3-6 trip.
Phillies 5, Rockies 3: Tommy Joseph hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run in the seventh inning to help Philadelphia beat Colorado in Denver.
Astros 10, A's 9: Luis Valbuena drove in four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer with one out in the ninth, to lift host Houston over Oakland.
Rangers 6, Twins 5: Rougned Odor and Elvis Andrus had RBI triples and host Texas overcame a struggling start by All-Star lefthander Cole Hamels to beat Minnesota.
Mariners 3, Royals 2: Hisashi Iwakuma pitched into the seventh, Seattle scored the go-ahead runs on Yordano Ventura's wild pitch and the Mariners held on to win at Kansas City.
Indians 10, Yankees 2: Mike Napoli hit one of five Cleveland home runs — a 462-foot blast — and the host Indians routed New York.
Blue Jays 6, Tigers 0: J.A. Happ and two relievers combined on a seven-hit shutout, Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run home run and host Toronto extended its season-high winning streak to seven games.
Red Sox 6, Rays 5: David Ortiz hit his 21st home run and Bryce Brentz had two hits and broke a tie with an RBI single in the sixth for host Boston. The win was Boston's fourth in five games.
Angels 9, Orioles 5: Daniel Nava had two RBIs and made a spectacular catch to help visiting Los Angeles to its fourth straight victory.
Braves 11, White Sox 8: Freddie Freeman, Tyler Flowers and Nick Markakis all homered off Chris Sale to lead Atlanta at Chicago.
