ALTHOUGH the number of companies in the medical sector has risen, we still do not have an official medical sector. We have five medical companies that should have their own sector. If we look at the energy sector, we see that there are only two companies in that sector, the first is the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and the second is the National Gas and Industrialization Company (GASCO). Having a sector for medical companies would help classify companies and assess performance. We can also have others sectors in the future such as a food and supermarket sector. Assessing the performance of sectors and companies is important in determining which companies are growing better and faster. The medical sector will attract several companies and this is something vital for the Saudi stock market. I believe the market should begin issuing weekly analyses about the performance of medical companies and this service should continue in the future when we have an official sector. Generally speaking, the market needs to issue more reports and analyses about all sectors every week to provide more details and information about the performance of all sectors. Currently, investment companies listed in the market are the ones that issue such reports and analyses but there is no harm if the market issues more reports. After all, such information and details are readily and easily available to the market and free. Moreover, the market can charge money for such services.
