Qatar won seven World Travel Awards (WTA) 2012 on Wednesday night at a gala of international travel and tourism fraternity's top decision-makers at the Katara Cultural Village in Doha, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) said on Thursday.?The awards ceremony held in partnership with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) honored leaders and top performers from the world's hospitality and travel industry, the QNA reported.?Hailed as “The Oscars of the Travel Industry” by the Wall Street Journal, WTA is recognized worldwide as the premiere travel organization. Doha bagged the “World's Leading Business Travel Destination” award while Aspire Zone was named as the “World's Leading Sports Tourism Development Project”.?Qatar Airways, a perennial winner, bagged two awards - World's Leading Airline, Business Class and World Leading Airlline Lounge, Business Class. Qatar's Regency Travel and Tours won the fifth award “World's Leading Travel Agency: while W Hotel Doha won the “World's Leading Hotel and Residences”.?In the individual awards category, Qatar's Ibrahim Hassan Al-Asmakh won the “Travel Personality of the Year”.?Aspire Zone's winning the award was recognition of Qatar's fine credentials in sports.
