RIYADH – Saudi coast guards seized a huge cache of narcotics, containing more than 1 million amphetamine tablets, after foiling an attempt to smuggle them into the Kingdom off the coast of Dhiba, Tabuk province, on Sunday. Two Egyptian smugglers and their Saudi accomplice were arrested, according to a spokesman of the General Directorate of Border Guards. The arrests were made following a chase and a shootout that ensued. One of the Egyptians was injured in the gunfight, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The Border Guard patrol teams noticed a boat approaching the coast in suspicious circumstances on Sunday morning and followed it. When the smugglers saw the troops, they put the pills in plastic barrels and threw them into the sea. The floating barrels contained about 1,036,563 amphetamine tablets. An investigation has been launched into the incident, the spokesman said.
