CAIRO — The family of 27-year-old police Captain, Ziad Gad, is seeking justice after he was killed when he was hit by a car that broke through a police checkpoint in the Heliopolis area of Cairo. Egyptian businessman, Amjad Sabri, was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, and Zaid's family said they are concerned that he may not face charges because of his prominent position as a businessman. Sabri offered EGP10 Million to the family as compensation for Gad's death, but they refused to accept the payment and said they would continue with their legal fight. In the first court session held a few days ago, the judge delayed issuing a verdict until he was able to reviewing the evidence and documents. Pictures of the accident released on social networks show Gad's blood under the wheels and spread across the street where the check point was located. There has been an effective media blackout on the incident, as Sabri is the owner of an advertising agency that exclusively sponsors advertising on most Egyptian channels. Gad's family have launched a Facebook page, We want Ziad's rights, and are planning to protest in front of Nasr City police station where Gad worked to demand justice. According to his colleagues and friends, Gad had a good reputation, and his funeral prayer witnessed thousands of people in attendance. Sabri said in the investigations that he was drunk while driving and that he didn't see the check point or the police officer.
