Sri Lanka Wednesday included Kaushal Silva in a 17-member squad for a three-match Test series in England, a day after he was discharged from hospital after being hit on the head by a cricket ball. Silva who has played 24 Tests for Sri Lanka primarily as an opening batsman spent two days in hospital following his injury while fielding at short leg in a practice match last Sunday. Doctors said after Tests that Silva was in good health and could resume training soon. The squad led by Angelo Mathews includes nine batsmen, six fast bowlers and two spinners. The first of the three Test matches starts at Headingley on May 19. Separately, the cricket body also reappointed former captain Sanath Jayasuriya as chief selector, a year after he resigned from the position. Former wicketkeeper batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana, ex-national players Ranjith Madurasinghe and Eric Upashantha are the other members of the new selection committee. Sri Lanka Cricket had sacked a previous selection committee just before the World Twenty20 and appointed a committee led by former star batsman Aravinda de Silva to select players for the tournament. Jayasuriya resigned last year after a new sports minister criticized his selection policy.
