Blues rally to beat Blackhawks
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 04 - 2016

Vladimir Tarasenko had two goals and an assist, and the St. Louis Blues rallied for a 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night.
Jaden Schwartz and Alexander Steen also scored for the Blues, who erased a 2-1 deficit with three consecutive goals. St. Louis seized a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinal.
Defenseman Duncan Keith scored two goals and Andrew Shaw had a goal and two assists for Chicago, which dropped back-to-back games on home ice.
St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott stopped 39 of 42 shots to earn the victory and Chicago goalie Corey Crawford turned aside 16 of 20 shots.
The Blues seized a 3-2 lead on a power-play goal by Schwartz with 18:24 remaining in the third period. Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk tried to sweep the puck away from the crease but inadvertently passed it to Schwartz, who beat Crawford stick-side for his second goal in as many games.
A defensive turnover by the Blackhawks allowed St. Louis to increase its lead to 4-2 less than four minutes later. Steen intercepted a pass attempt by van Riemsdyk and raced into the offensive zone for a breakaway goal.
Chicago cut the deficit to 4-3 on Keith's second goal of the game with 5:20 remaining in the third period.
Ducks shutout Preds
Whether it was a change in goalies or just better defense overall, the Anaheim Ducks came up with the result they needed to produce their first win in their Western Conference quarterfinal with the Nashville Predators.
Frederik Anderson stopped all 27 shots he faced for his second postseason shutout while Chris Stewart scored a goal and added an assist in Anaheim's 3-0 victory at Bridgestone Arena.
Nashville still leads the series 2-1 with Game 4 scheduled for Thursday night, but the Pacific Division champions generated an impressive comeback after tasting consecutive 3-2 losses at home to start the best-of-seven series.
Pens edge Rangers
Matt Cullen beat Henrik Lundqvist on a semi-breakaway after beating two defensemen early in the third period as the Pittsburgh Penguins spoiled the return of Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh with a 3-1 win in Game 3 of their first-round series.
Sidney Crosby also scored and Matt Murray made 16 saves in his return to action in helping the Penguins take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Game 4 is Thursday night in New York. The Rangers have lost four consecutive playoff games at Madison Square Garden going back to last season's Eastern Conference final against Tampa Bay.
Kris Letang iced the game with an empty-net goal.
Lightning down Red Wings
Ondrej Palat scored with 2:59 left in the third period, lifting Tampa Bay over Detroit for a 3-1 lead in the first-round series.
Game 5 is Thursday night at Tampa Bay.
Ben Bishop stopped 26 shots for the Lightning and Petr Mrazek made 30 saves for the Red Wings.
Palat was in a perfect position right in front of the net to make the most of Jonathan Drouin's pass on the game-winning goal. Drouin had three assists.
Nikita Kucherov had power-play goals in the first and second period to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead late in the second, but Detroit's Darren Helm and Gustav Nyquist scored late in the period to tie the game. — Agencies
