Our religion gives special attention and care to women. Women's International Day recently took place. Each nation celebrates this event differently. The United Nations decided to set a certain date of the year to celebrate the rights of women as most women around the world are deprived of their rights. This day serves as a reminder of these rights. As I mentioned earlier, Islam grants women full rights. It is us who treat women unfairly. Men mistreat women in our society. There are mothers who work day and night to take care of their children and provide for them because fathers have become neglectful of their responsibilities. There are young women who want to get married but cannot because their male guardians prohibit them from doing so. There are wives who are not paid alimony although courts have ordered their former husbands to do so. There are young women who are deprived of inheritance. These poor women cannot follow up on their cases in court because of red-tape. If they decide to go to a lawyer, they discover they have to pay a lot of money. Saudi women are dedicated to their husbands and sons and fathers and are ready to go to extremes to make them feel happy and comfortable. Muslims women are very dedicated in general. But what about us men? How long will we continue to mistreat women? Civil society institutions and charity organizations should help all needy women by giving them money and supporting them if they need help with other services.
